Nothing compares to that moment when you realize you can pack your summer clothes away and start getting cozy for the crisp air, beautiful warm colours and pumpkin spice everything! It’s also the time of year where people start coming together and spending more time with each other. You fall back into routine, children go back to school, work starts to pick up again and you find yourself planning ahead for holidays like Thanksgiving and Halloween! This is also the time of year that calls for many activities in and around the city and surrounding area. Here is a list of my all time favourite things to do during fall in Toronto!
When I was younger, my parents always took us to Chudleigh’s farm for a day of fall fun. Apple picking was always part of that special day every year and created childhood memories to last a lifetime. More often than not, our cousins would tag along for hay rides, mazes, candy apples and pumpkin pie. Now in adulthood, I find myself back on the orchard! My boyfriends family goes to an orchard in King City every year. We each pick apples, take a ton of pictures, pick up some butter tarts and go home to start making apple and pumpkin pies. This is by far one of my favourite fall activities, not only because you get to be outside enjoying the crisp fall air, but also because it always means spending it with your family!
The Markham Fair
Another childhood memory I treasure is the Markham Fair! I vividly remember my parents rushing home after a crazy work week to take my sister and I to the Markham Fair to watch the duck races, go to the petting zoo and spend a night removed from the chaos of the rest of the city. The Markham Fair took place this past weekend, however it’s one of my all time favourite fall activities and couldn’t be missed! Although the Markham Fair had it’s run for the 2015 season, there are still plenty of fall fairs happening just outside of Toronto. Check them out here!
Living in such an amazing city filled with art and culture is so eye opening and inspiring. This one night a year is something I truly try to make it out to experience. Although this year could not happen for me, there is so much out there from all the exhibits to fill you in on what you missed. Follow @sbnuitblanche on Instagram for some amazing shots of the night. BlogTO has also featured some really cool articles from this years event. Check out some of their featured photos here as well as the best and worst of the evenings exhibits right … over… here. Here’s to next year!
Visit an Antique Market
On a free weekend, my boyfriend and I really try our best to scope out antique markets or fairs. I’ll be honest, this summer has been loaded with family events and weddings, but now that our favourite season has arrived, it’s time to hit them up again! One of our favourites is (and highly recommended by my parents .. THANKS MA!) is in Aberfoyle. This antique market is huge, all outdoor and is beautiful to drive out to. Last time we visited, we found some great deals on records, one of a kind furniture and jewelry as well as guitars (if you’re lucky!) Definitely a must visit before the season closes on Oct 25th.
Toronto Fashion Week
Toronto Fashion Week brings together so many creative minds from all walks of the Canadian arts community. Fashion and design and often times pop culture collide to create some amazing shows. I was lucky enough during my university days to volunteer. I had the opportunity to discover, who is now, one of my all time favourite designers, Romona Keveza. (If you don’t know … educate yourself here! Her designs are stunning!) I had the opportunity to meet many Canadian stars, Torontonian public figures, but more importantly, I had the chance to be exposed to an industry that constantly pushing their creative limits. My advise to anyone who loves fashion and design .. get tickets ASAP! The event is taking place Oct 19- 23.
